Ex-Mooney Treasurer Blasts Columnist's Comments

August 22, 2002

I would like to comment on the use of my name in the article by David 'Kip' Koontz on yesterday's The Tentacle. For the record, the sole reason that I left Alex Mooney's campaign as treasurer was personal and had absolutely nothing to with Alex Mooney and his current bid for re-election to the Maryland State Senate.

The pure insinuation that I may have resigned due to issues surrounding his campaign is absolutely wrong. Alex is an honorable and trustworthy person. He has done nothing but what his constituency elected him to do during his current term in office.

This political mudslinging is exactly why the ordinary citizen is wary of politicians. Alex is someone with values, who believes and fights for them. Most people just sit idly by, but not Alex. He might be criticized for fighting for what he believes is right, but if each one of us did the same, then maybe our society would be better off.

In the future, if my name is to be referenced, I would appreciate and expect someone to contact me to verify what they are reporting and why things happened the way they did.
