As Long as We Remember...

No So Fast, Mister!

August 30, 2007

This is in response to Mr. Soltero's typical leftist knee-jerk reaction of raising taxes to solve all problems (which was posted on The Tentacle on August 23rd). We have a "structural" deficit, raise taxes. We have "global warming," raise taxes. We have babies without pacifiers, raise taxes. You get the picture.

Has Mr. Soltero still not learned from past mistakes?

Remember the lottery? After it was done building the stadium (which was ridiculous) it was going to fund education. A funny thing happened on the way to the bank, Mr. Soltero's beloved bureaucrats and politicians found other spending priorities. They systematically squandered those funds on some other ridiculous scheme-de-jour.

Remember the "tobacco" tax? Only to be used to "educate" the public on the evils of smoking?

Remember the bay bridge toll? It would only exist until the bridge was paid for. Did Mr. Soltero not notice we still pay the toll today?

The list goes on and on.

It's not about REVENUE! It's about SPENDING!

Their spending is their power. And according to Mr. Soltero's view, that's fine with him. The more regulations, bureaucrats, and elitist politicians, the better our society will be. It has never occurred to him that in the areas of the country where his model is mandated, we have the highest illiteracy, crime, and, yes, taxes.
