Board of Education Members Recommendations Move to Gardner
BREAKING: The County Council have recommended Rae Gallagher, Ron Peppe and Susan Johnson as possible replacements for the seat of Joy Schaefer. Mrs. Schaefer resigned her position on the Board of Education in December and has reported she will step down mid-January to become County Executive Jan Gardner’s Director in the office of Legislative Affairs.
Mr. Peppe, Ms. Johnson, Dr. Miller and Dr. Rose were supported by Frederick County citizens during public comment before the announcement.
One of Ms. Johnson’s children said she should be recommended because among other things, “she’s nice”.
Democrat Central Committee President Deborah Carter spoke against recommending Dr. Miller stating she was a tempting choice, but was rejected by the voters in the last election.
Dr. Miller was the logical choice if the County Council was interested in Frederick County tradition. They signaled they were not interested when they chose Lois Jarman to fill Ken Kerr’s seat.
Caleb Rose has already filed to run for the Board of Education in 2020.
The names will be presented to CE Gardner who will make her decision before Ms. Schaefer steps down in January.
Rae Gallagher works for the non-profit Center for Supportive Schools.
Susan Johnson is part of the faculty at Frederick Community College.
Ron Peppe was appointed to the Frederick County Board of Education in 1997 and sat until 2004. He also served on the Board of Education in Virginia.
