The Right-Wing Big Top Rolls Into Nevada

Patrick W. Allen

We learned this past week that in Nevada you can completely disregard grazing fees on Bureau of Land Management land for decades and cry foul when the bill collector shows up at your door. Then, you can convince right-wing extremists and faux news outlets to get behind your “their picking on me” cause.

It’s like watching flies swarm around and over a pile of cow manure.

There is no need to debate that this anti-government rancher has been bilking the government for decades; the facts support the narrative. However, for the right-wing crazies, this is another opportunity to turn right-wing illegal activities into an Obama issue and sooner or later link it to Benghazi.

Now, about the 2nd Amendment zealots who look for any reason to strap on their manhood – if you give these nut jobs a six pack of beer and tell them there’s a Negro in the White House, they pull out all the stops and man up…putting women and children between themselves and the guvment.

Fox [News] figures praised armed supporters of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy as good, patriotic, hard-working Americans, ignoring their threats of violence against Bureau of Land Management (BLM) agents and indications that they were willing to put women in children in the line of fire.

According to one Cliven Bundy supporter: "We were actually strategizing to put all the women up at the front." [1]

Anyone who even attempts to justify Mr. Bundy’s actions, backed up by his faux militia and faux news supporters, should simply be written off as not only ignorant, but as ideological sociopaths.

A federal judge in Las Vegas first ordered Mr. Bundy to remove his trespassing cattle in 1998. The bureau was implementing two federal court orders last year to remove Bundy's cattle after making repeated efforts to resolve the matter outside of court, adding that the rancher has not paid grazing fees in 20 years. [2]

These wing nuts are not patriots, nor are they pro-American vigilantes.  They are simply ignorant, uneducated bigots, referred to as domestic terrorists by an intelligent few, embraced by right-wing extremists and “…guvment is the problem…” Republicans. Some of the most noteworthy (a.k.a. unbelievable) comments have been:

Cliven Bundy Clan. “I abide by all state laws. But I abide by almost zero federal laws." Bundy's wife Carol told the Sun that she owns a shotgun and is prepared to use it.

"I've got a shotgun," she said. "It's loaded and I know how to use it. We're ready to do what we have to do, but we'd rather win this in the court of public opinion." [3]

Bill O'Reilly. “But here's the fact. The federal government sent more force in to handle Cliven Bundy's cows than they did to Ukraine”.[4] Told you so…the Ukraine plug is the first attempt to link this back to Benghazi.

Bundy’s Sociopath Posse. From near and wide, armed men, with women and children in tow, are trickling toward Cliven Bundy's ranch, where the rancher's fight with the federal government has become a rallying cry for militia groups across the United States. Posse members say they are prepared for armed confrontation.” [5]

But, let’s be real. Right-wing ideological sociopaths are not limited to Nevada. And they are not limited to private citizens who are all hat and no cattle. They seem to be popping up all over the place…and they come in several flavors – private citizens (a.k.a. lemmings) as well as elected officials.

Think about it. Eighty percent of Nevada is government land. To help ranchers in that area run their businesses, the government offers attractive and affordable grazing fees…typically four or five dollars per head. But that was too much for good ole boy Cliven Bundy. So, the government offered this lone wolf $1.35 per head; and, to no surprise, Mr. Bundy said no to this offer as well.

While the rest of the nation looks on to this ridiculous spectacle, you don’t have to travel to Nevada to find illiterate crackers like Mr. Bundy and his right-wing lemmings…just swing by local government meetings, where citizens have to take an oath to tell the truth, but the panel on the dais says “no” to the same standard.

Summary. Had enough? Just stand up, toe-to-toe against these wacky right-wingers and speak up against their version of reality – but, don’t be surprised if their only retort is incoherent drivel. When they continue to change their story and create new facts from fiction, just remind them that this is the digital age.

For voters, regardless of political party affiliation, if you don’t get off the couch and cast your vote, then drivel wins instead of common sense.

It doesn’t matter if it’s congressional corporate sponsorship or local community inside deals for developers, hypocrisy doesn’t come close to describing how right-wing, ideological pariahs attempt to suffocate segments of our society while at the same time demanding oxygen for themselves and special interest others.
