On Democrats, Excuse Me!

Lee Marshall

How thrilling it must be to be a Democrat these days. Your party is in disarray having lost its national agenda and showing its obstructionist leanings in this time of national crisis.

It is appalling that the once great political party has fallen so far behind the eight-ball that it now resorts to childish accusations of malfeasance against the president and others, while perpetrating Talk-TV spins to excuse its own failings.

The national angst aside, my blood pressure rises to see Democrats banding together with such discredited liars as The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence in trying to bash Maryland Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Rep. Robert Ehrlich(R.,2nd).

All this to save the candidacy of Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, whose trail of crumbs leads back to her grandfather, the late Joseph P. Kennedy. He made his money in illegal importation of whiskey then used his cash to buy a diplomatic posting during Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration.

K-K-K-Katy spent the weekend at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport, Mass., schmoozing with the far left, rich and famous from D.C. and Martha's Vineyard. It was a $2,000-a-head Kennedy love-fest, according to the schmaltzy report in Sunday's Baltimore Sun, which recalled the halcyon days of "Camelot."

So much for raising money from "outsiders," a sin placed on Sen. Alex X. Mooney in the last election. The Kennedy Democrats should keep it up there and forget about Maryland. It's okay now, Alex.

We need not embellish the sex-based transgressions of K-K-K-Katy's father Robert, her uncle John, and Uncle Ted, the hero of Chappaquiddick. Some of those sordid stories are airing on Adelphia Cable as we write.

All we need is Sen. Hillary Clinton and her libido-charged husband Bill to campaign for K-K-K-Katy here. What a legacy that would be for the Free State.

We already have the scheming Gov. Parris N. Glendening, whose notches include Prince George's County and now the state, his cohort K-K-K-Katy, Sen. Mike Miller, the entire Baltimore delegation, and Del. Casper Taylor, of Cumberland, to tick off a few names on the "Wanted" list.

In Frederick we have Del. Sue Hecht, whose thirst for influence in the Glendening administration will haunt her in the upcoming election. Her positive spins on her liberal agenda votes aren't taking any root. She's basically an honorable lady, but she is listening to the wrong people.

For further embarrassment, we have Mayor Jennifer Dougherty, the Ever Lovin' Mare, whose backroom deals are beginning to make Jim Grimes blush. And, for sheer cheek and ignorance, Democrats have Oh Donna. Alderman Marcia Hall is the "Little Orphan of the Storm" with her "Gee, Mom" rhetoric, and Alderman Bill Hall, a different kind of Dem, is looking for a way around his party affiliation.

Polls show Americans are up in arms against the internal and external foes, who would dismantle this "great experiment" called the United States of America. Americans have lost faith in the Democratic Party experiment, which has failed this nation in its orgy of power.

You can recall the Democratic Party's issues and ascribe the nation's ills directly to them.

Try the rights of the criminal, the vast majority of whom are slapped on the wrist by liberal judges, who blame society for their crimes. Concurrently, the Dems have given only lip service to the notion of a victim's rights.

Democrats framed this society of values gone awry, where Glendening-appointed judges have "domestic partners" not spouses, the latter is a parting shot to the electorate from the lame duck Guv.

Don't forget the so-called "Great Society" was the brainchild of President John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. It was a well-intended effort that has created a mindset that welfare is the right of the people, especially if you or your ancestors have been oppressed.

The Democratic Party's "quota" system in schools, universities and in the workplace created a reverse discrimination game that disenfranchised persons (those not "of color") whose hard work was discounted in favor of the less qualified.

The Dems also gave us education experiments that have wrecked our school systems with one failed notion after another. The worst is that teachers were discouraged from failing unproductive students because it might "upset their feelings of self worth."

Gun control, a Democratic standard, has failed in Maryland and every other state and nation which has tried it. Baltimore is staggered by the rise in shootings these days. One of those came from a man wielding a legal shotgun two weeks ago. He shot a pretentious young black man who was stealing his bicycle. Sorry for the young man, but I'll bet no one else will steal from that yard again.

The shootings in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., are being perpetrated by illegal handguns, for which no signature cartridge can be produced, and were fired by persons who probably didn't bother to take the gun safety course. They learned on the job (OJT).

In Baltimore, only a fraction of gun-related crimes actually reach the bar of justice. Police are making the arrests and the courts and state's attorney offices say they can't handle the workload. So the criminals go free to shoot again. If perchance they are prosecuted, prison terms for them have been reduced as much as one-third by the judges, using laws passed by the compassionate Democratic legislature of Maryland. Don't forget, the Guv put a hold on executing duly convicted murderers to ensure there was no racial bias. A killer is a killer and should die!

A Democratic example for America's youth must be Rep. James Traficant (D., Ohio), the "People's Choice," who displayed his great powers of persuasion last week in a stop at the House of Representatives along the way to federal prison. He should and will be kicked out of office.

Then there's Rep. Barney Frank (D., Mass.), a convicted child molester, who manages to keep his pink cushions in the House of Representatives. It's okay to be a homosexual, but stay away from the pages. He was only censured by his Democratic cohorts.

Democrats, both here and inside the Beltway, circled the wagons in support of Mr. Clinton, whose crimes of omission and commission made Richard Nixon look like a small-time con man.

It will take some time and some new leadership to right the Democrats. In the meantime the mantle of national leadership has been thrust on the Republicans, who have their own rogues, but at least the GOP is pursuing an agenda our Founders would applaud.
